Money is no object, any vehicle - what do you pick and how do you mod it?

I pick: A Jeep Grand Wagoneer to do it with style!

Mods:

Turbodiesel V6 from a modern Jeep

Keep the bullet-proof torqueflite and OEM transfer case

Safari kit - extra lights, winch, rack, tools, recovery gear

Mild lift - 2 in. and upgraded shocks, bushings, springs

Bigger radial tires with kevlar belts on steelies

Larger fuel tank

Satnav and Satcom

PTO hookup and matching powered trailer with extra supplies

Money being no object, I would get a darn helicopter.  If it must be a ground vehicle, probably a new Toyota land cruiser with slightly bigger BFG KO2s, a winch,  and an auxiliary 50 gal fuel tank.

Considering a select group has lived on this boat for 10 years......I should be able to find a uninhabited island somewhere. 3/4 of the world is covered by water, why stay on land?

As long as you have Ginger or Mary Ann on board, I’d be good to go.

I think it’s be a lot easier to get gas for a road vehicle than refueling a helicopter.....

A sailboat is the correct answer. In the 40-50' range is probably a good balance of manageable and big enough to handle rough seas. Sign me up.

For sure, I can’t watch the Walking Dead because I would get a boat and said to the islands.

Volvo C303 with an OM617, and a 2 speed rear diff. Low to match the front diff when I need 4x4, and high to use at speed for fuel economy. Also a WVO conversion in storage for whenever I can’t find any more diesel. Basic camper interior, and storage boxes and a solar panel like the one pictured. I was thinking big like this

Kinja'd!!!

but there are a lot of places in BC where that would just be too big too fit. I guess if money is no object, I’d use the big luxurious overland truck as a mothership, and tow the C303 to use for excursions too tight for the LMTV

I’d go for a Honda Ruckus. Sure, it only goes 40-45 mph. But it also can travel over 125 miles on its 1.3 gallon gas tank. It’s easy to conceal, light enough for one person to move easily, dead simple to work on, the drivetrain is damn near bulletproof, and it can weave between the myriad abandoned cars, buildings, other stuff that litter the wastelands.

Some of the smaller helicopters could get away with premium. The bigger problem is the limited range and light maximum load

It’s a bugout vehicle, not a survive for the rest of your life vehicle. Take the helo out to a remote cabin in the middle of the woods and stay put till the world crisis situation blows over. And if it doesn’t... well, you’re out in the middle of the woods so probably better off than the poor saps stuck in urban areas.

While I certainly can’t argue with your choice, I’ll go with a multifuel deuce and a half because it can do this and still take the top off and drop the windshield when you’re not escaping zombies.

Ok as a single use vehicle it makes sense. Although not sure how many remote wooden locations would have space for a helicopter to land. If it did I’d propose that you are too close to the urban people who would attempt to use their Tahoe to go extreme off-roading

the most remote and off-grid cabins in Alaska are accessible only by helo or small fixed wing aircraft . Some are over a hundred miles from the nearest unpaved road.

A well-equipped sailing yacht would be the most sensible bugout vehicle I could think of . I want to be out of range while the people on the main land sort it out. Visit some small isolated islands. Return when they’ve solved their problems.

Delos is good. Sailing bubbles was an early one. That guy passed away unfortunately. Got sick on northern India I believe. There are a few really good sailing channels out right now.

Stop being geographically correct! I’m thinking of the forests near me that are heavy with trees and no much in the way of open land

Money is no object? Well I truly have to take advantage of this scenario and dream big.

I’d call Maltec and place an order from the comfort of my yacht . I’m taking a risk here by choosing a platform that isn’t sold in North America, but I feel confident trusting my life to a 70 Series Cruiser. It’s got the chops to navigate off the grid if need be, is big enough to live in comfortably while on the move, but also small enough to where it shouldn’t be too cumbersome to navigate whatever ravaged metropolis I encounter.

Kinja'd!!!

Oh, did you say yacht?

Why yes! I’m glad you asked. I made the call to order my Cruiser whilst playing Yahtzee with my wife aboard our Wally 118. That’s one of the first things I’d buy if I had Ben Chen the Billionaire money.
